First off, all applications and resumes for executive board and committee positions are due no later than 11:59 pm this Thursday, December 3rd. Once again, we’ll be interviewing to fulfill the Secretary position on the exec board and since some of our current committee members will be interviewing for Secretary as well, we may have open committee positions. The possible committee openings could be for social, fundraising, or PR. Interviews for the open positions will be held this Sunday, December 6th and Monday, December 7th. If you’re interested in applying for either the Secretary board position, or a committee please don’t delay in sending your applications and resumes to pscuiuc@gmail.com.
Also, due to scheduling conflicts and requests from a number of members, we’ve decided to push the barcrawl back a week to next Wednesday, December 9th. On Wednesday, we’ll be meeting at 7:15 pm in the Union basement (near all of the restaurants) for a quick end of the semester recap meeting and to pass out last year’s t-shirts for those of you who don’t have a t-shirt to wear on the barcrawl. Everyone must be wearing a t-shirt on the barcrawl to be excused from cover charges throughout the night.
10-11pm Murphy’s Pub
11-12am Clybourne
12-1am Firehaus
1-2am Joe’s Brewery
Update: The bar crawl date has been changed to Wednesday, December 9th.
First of all, we will be interviewing applicants for a vacancy on our exec board for next semester. Unfortunately, we will be losing our Secretary after this semester so we are looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position. We will be holding interviews the nights of Sunday, December 6th and Monday, the 7th. The application form can be found here and is due along with a resume by Thursday, December 3rd at 11:59 pm. For those of you that may be interested but aren’t entirely sure what the Secretary does, he/she is responsible for keeping an accurate record of membership information, minutes from general meetings, and collecting membership dues. The Secretary also initiates outreach to potential members. More importantly, the Secretary, along with the rest of the board, plays a major role in shaping what kinds of things PSC does. So if this interests you, please send in an application (which can be found here) and a resume by December 3rd to us at PSCuiuc@gmail.com.
Also, because some of our committee members will be applying to fill the spot, we may end up having a committee position open as well. This position could involve fundraising, PR, or social events. If you submit your application for the Secretary position, you will also be considered for the committees if a vacancy opens up.
Bar Crawl
The PSC Fall semester barcrawl is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9th. Believe it or not, December isn’t that far away so start planning now. Currently we are planning on using our T-shirts from last year. If you do not have last year’s shirt and want to attend the barcrawl, shoot us an email and we’ll figure out a way to get you a shirt. We’ll send out more specific information about this later but for now keep it in mind.
We’ll be having a happy hour this Friday at Murphy’s Pub at 5:00. We’re going to be meeting in the new section of the bar (East side, near the back), so come on out and get to know the Exec Board as well as other members of the club and have a good time!
Also, clear you calendars for Thursday, November 12th! PSC is hosting a White Horse Cup Night starting at 9pm at The White Horse Inn. Purchase of the $5 dollar cup will allow you to receive great beverage specials throughout the night. Proceeds go to the club. Details will be forthcoming. Hope to see you all there!
P.S. If you have not paid your dues or turned in a membership form, you can bring them to the happy hour. Those who do so will receive this year’s club t-shirt when they are ordered.
Our next meeting will be this Wednesday, October 28th at 7pm in Room 113 Greg Hall. At the meeting we’ll be discussing the ‘war on drugs.’ We’ll be looking at a little bit of the history on the ‘war on drugs,’ all the way up to President Obama’s new policy on drugs, and everything in between.
We will also have t-shirt order forms for the semester. To be eligible for a t-shirt you must have turned in both a membership form and dues, so if you haven’t yet please bring your membership form and dues to the meeting if you’re interested in receiving a shirt.
For those of you can’t make it to the meeting, but have already paid dues, you’re more than welcome to email Jessica (pscuiuc@gmail.com) with your name, contact email (either email or phone), and your t-shirt size.
See you all on Wednesday!
P.S. We are having a whole lot of issues with emailing so please keep checking the website!
Our next meeting will be tomorrow night, Wednesday, Oct 14th at 7pm in Greg 113. At the meeting we’ll be discussing the current situation in Afghanistan, including the upcoming decision that President Obama will have to make about troop deployment, and the implications that the Afghanistan war will have for the Obama Administration.
Here are some links for more background information about the war and current situation:

Also, this Thursday, Oct 15th, from 3-7pm we’ll be holding a fundraiser at Za’s. The fundraiser is pretty simple, the Exec bBoard and committee chairs will be handing right outside Za’s from 3-7 handing out $1 off coupons for Za’s in exchange for a dollar. So, if you plan on eating out on Thursday grab a bunch of friends and stop by Za’s to help support the club!
It’s time for our next meeting!
It will take place tomorrow, September 30th at 7pm in Wohlers 243. We have a couple different things going on. First of all, we’ll be introducing our Fundraising and PR Committee members. Interviews are finishing up and we’re excited to put our new committees to work.
For the rest of the meeting, we are going to be discussing the ongoing “clout” scandal here at U of I. We will be looking to touch base on all aspects of the issue, including the (potential) resignations of President White and Chancellor Herman, the status of the board of trustees, the effect of these category I candidates on us, the effect of this scandal on the University, and anything else you guys might fancy.
We are also going to spend a little time talking about the recent DI Editorial criticizing the student body’s response to this scandal. If you haven’t read it, you can find it here:
The editorial caused quite a stir with some students and we have extended and invitation to the DI Editorial Board. Hopefully a few of them will come to the meeting Wednesday and we can discuss their article with them.
In either case, we will be discussing the scandal with or without them.
Membership Forms and Dues
That’s right, we’re calling you all out on your procrastination. If you want to continue to participate in all the things PSC does you’ll need to turn in your
membership form and pay your dues by October 14th. If you don’t pay your dues, you won’t get a T-Shirt and you won’t be able to participate in happy hours, traveling socials, tailgates, or any other social event PSC puts on. Again, dues are $15 and, along with your membership form, are due on October 14th.
For those interested in applying for a committee position, please fill out our Committee Application form. Email the completed form and your resume to Neil Chatterjee at dchatt2@illinois.edu by 11:59 PM on Friday, September 18th. No late applications will be accepted.
