Happy Hour: October 2nd

Since we missed out on our regularly scheduled Happy Hour last week, we are going to be catching up.  We’ll be having a happy hour THIS FRIDAY at Murphy’s Pub at 5:00.
We keep talking about this and I’m not sure why you guys don’t believe us..  The Happy Hours really are A LOT of fun…  You should come to them.  All of you.  It’s a great way to meet tons of people in the club, including the exec board.  We’ll also have our new committee members there this week so it will be a good chance to get to know them, as well.

Meeting: September 30th

It’s time for our next meeting!  It will take place tomorrow, September 30th at 7pm in Wohlers 243. We have a couple different things going on.  First of all, we’ll be introducing our Fundraising and PR Committee members.  Interviews are finishing up and we’re excited to put our new committees to work.
For the rest of the meeting, we are going to be discussing the ongoing “clout” scandal here at U of I.  We will be looking to touch base on all aspects of the issue, including the (potential) resignations of President White and Chancellor Herman, the status of the board of trustees, the effect of these category I candidates on us, the effect of this scandal on the University, and anything else you guys might fancy.
We are also going to spend a little time talking about the recent DI Editorial criticizing the student body’s response to this scandal.  If you haven’t read it, you can find it here:
The editorial caused quite a stir with some students and we have extended and invitation to the DI Editorial Board.  Hopefully a few of them will come to the meeting Wednesday and we can discuss their article with them.

In either case, we will be discussing the scandal with or without them.

Membership Forms and Dues

That’s right, we’re calling you all out on your procrastination.  If you want to continue to participate in all the things PSC does you’ll need to turn in your membership form and pay your dues by October 14th.  If you don’t pay your dues, you won’t get a T-Shirt and you won’t be able to participate in happy hours, traveling socials, tailgates, or any other social event PSC puts on.  Again, dues are $15 and, along with your membership form, are due on October 14th.

Meeting: September 16th

There will be a PSC meeting tomorrow, September 16th at 7:00pm in Greg 113.  My apologies to those of you who were looking forward to meeting and chatting with our new Trustee Chris Kennedy this Wednesday.  We have made contact with Mr. Kennedy and he has expressed interest in coming to talk with us, however he is regrettably unavailable this week.  We are going to try and schedule him for our next meeting.  So those of you who were looking forward to that meeting, don’t despair.

In the meantime, this week’s meeting will focus on the hot button topic of Healthcare Reform.  There will be no speaker and we hope you all come with plenty to say on the subject.  Topics we will touch on include but are certainly not limited to the proposed “public option,” the various political strategies involved for both sides of the debate, funding options, the proposed mandate for all Americans to have health insurance, and the proposed regulation of the private insurance market.

I know that all might sound a bit overwhelming, but have no fear.  The discussion will go as fast or as slow and in whichever direction you all desire.  As usual, our debate will be lively and varied with just the right amount of fervent chaos thrown in there.  I’m looking forward to it.  Hope to see many of you there.

Committee Applications

For those interested in applying for a committee position, please fill out our Committee Application form.  Email the completed form and your resume to Neil Chatterjee at dchatt2@illinois.edu by 11:59 PM on Friday, September 18th.  No late applications will be accepted.

Meeting: September 2nd

The first meeting of the year will be held this Wednesday, September 2nd at 7:00 in 114 David Kinley Hall.  For those of you that don’t know, DKH is the building just West of the South Quad and 114 is the large lecture hall right in the middle of the building.

The first meeting should be fairly brief and we ought to get out of there in an hour or so.  We’ll introduce this year’s executive board and our plans for the year, spend some time getting to know each other, and of course take a minute or two to talk some politics.  We will have membership forms for everyone to fill out and if you bring $15 and pay your dues, we just might have some left over T-shirts from last year as an added bonus…

So, if you’re as excited about PSC as we are (or at least mildly curious), come on out on Wednesday.
